Empowering students is vital, and the Can-Do Kids Series books do just that. Written as poetry, this makes the material easy to remember for students. The sections at the end of each book assist teachers and caregivers with methods to open these difficult subjects with students, along with leading questions allowing teacher and students to fully engage in a meaningful discussion which is solution-focused
At a time when teachers are pulled in so many directions, it’s important to have the right tools assisting you with your class, as a group and on an individual basis. That’s why I created the Can-Do Kids books. Written with TBRI® professional counselors and therapists, these brain-based books provide an easy, stress free way to start the hardest of conversations.

A classroom is a microcosm of our world, and as the teacher, you directly influence each child’s world. Unfortunately, some homes are not safe places, therefore the classroom may be their safest environment. Using My Body’s Mine as a starting point, teaching children body boundaries is important. Teachers have used the book as a tool to build a relationship on trust and understanding, creating a classroom built on felt safety.

The strategies and  activities in I Can Do That! are sensory based interventions, with fun and simple ways to engage the class with regulating movements. By reinforcing the actions as a class, students become empowered to do them on their own when they feel themselves become triggered in stressful situations. By seeing the need behind the behavior, (TBRI® mantra) you can assist the student with techniques which empowers them to self-regulate. Providing them this foundation of self-regulation will extend beyond the classroom and into their homes. A classroom where everyone knows, understands, and displays the same self-regulation activities creates not only an environment open to learning, but an enjoyable atmosphere where each student can thrive.

Creating meaningful connections is a skill used throughout life. Learning and practicing the life values in My Actions Matter helps build those relationships, setting the stage for students to take these skills beyond the classroom. When everyone speaks the “same language,” using familiar words for expected behaviors such as cooperate and compromise, speak with respect, cause no hurts, listen and obey, students recognize not only the unwanted behavior, but what the desired correction. Students at one school love when the teacher uses puppets to display the unwanted behavior and then the students get to correct it. Giving voice to values is critical, and this book assists in creating a setting where expectations are understood and practiced.

Can-Do Kids books are tools to assist you in connecting, empowering, and correcting your students. With these lessons applied your influence will extend well beyond the classroom and into each student for a lifetime.
